The "El Roi" Collection
Artist's Statement
Painting has always been therapeutic for me as an artist, and as I’ve grown within the medium, I find myself incredibly drawn to playing with colors, abstractions, and expressive figures and silhouettes. This collection, in turn, is the embodiment of the therapy that I’ve found in creation and in the seasons of my life where I’ve learned impactful lessons about stillness, beauty, and the sovereignty of God.
Entitled “El Roi,” this collection speaks to the reality that YHWH is a God who sees us, knows us, and comforts us. All we have to do is take the time to be acquainted with him in moments of rest, even in the midst of our struggles. Everything around us—especially the marvel of the natural world—testifies to the majesty of God. With this in mind, you’ll find that this collection is heavily influenced by the themes of nature and contemplation and that each piece is inspired by a supporting scripture.
My hope in sharing these pieces is that they motivate other believers and persons from every walk of life to take time for stillness, silence, observation, personal growth, and reflection. I encourage viewers of this collection to remember that they are seen and deeply known.
Prayer
Heavenly Father,
I pray that each piece in this collection be a blessing to all who purchase or interact with this work. I pray that viewers are filled with your peace and are drawn deeper into your presence. Ignite a fire within your people to experience you and to know you. Not just when it’s convenient, but when discipline is required. Fill their homes with beauty and shower them with your grace. Watch over them diligently in their comings and their goings, and make them aware of your sovereign presence in every situation. Exalt yourself within their lives God, and tear down any and every thing that seeks to present itself as a distraction against them. Bless them Father, every time they encounter these pieces, and bring them into remembrance of your word.
